Courchevel 1850, French Alps, France
A not-so-old story tells that once, when spring time was slowly arriving, the fresh growing grass used to sometimes scratch the browsing veal’s tongue. From the French word “écorcher” (scratch) was born the name of this famous ski resort: Courchevel. Enclosed in the Tarentaise valley and part of the Trois Vallées ski area (one of the biggest in Europe), this small concentration of villages has become a compulsory step for skiers.
Standing at the highest ground, on top of the Alps and close to the slopes, the La Grande Roche Chalet quietly awaits in the middle of conifers. This majestic wood and stone lodge built among the wilderness grants behind its walls a hammam, a gym and a large swimming pool surrounded by mirrors, sculpted pillars and statues.
Typically Savoyard and traditional, the Alpine Chalet provides by its large bay-windows a magnificent view on the Bellecôte glacier, and on a crag called Dent du Villard. The spacious areas arranged across the chalet echo to those wide natural panoramas. Wooden-beams unify the various indoor areas with classical but refined furniture in a warming manner. Also, a beautiful fireplace and a private home cinema have been arranged for delightful nights.
Bedrooms offer high windows protected by thick curtains. Through them can be seen the breathtaking view. Each cabin-like suite is decorated with high mirrors and chandeliers and include its own bathroom. One of them also possesses a fireplace.
At a couple of minutes from this lovely place, the slopes deploy themselves like an immaculate carpet of snow. Shepherds use to lead their herds here, but now,in this prestigious resort, all there is to do is relax, enjoy and have fun.
